Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava XXV: Traveling Exhibition in Japan
Picture Books with BIB: 50 Years and Beyond

The Biennial of Illustrations Bratislava (BIB) is an international, children’s illustrated book competition held biennially in Bratislava, Slovakia. BIB features judging of original illustrations used to create published picture books. As BIB began in 1965, 2015 marked the 25th event, heralding half a century of activity.

This traveling exhibition in Japan commemorates that fifty-year history with Section 1- devoted to Japanese works entered in previous BIB events, and looking back over the role that BIB played in Japanese picture books.

The exhibition’s Section 2 presents the prizewinners and also Japan’s entries in the 25th BIB. The selection will foster a consideration of the present and future of picture book illustration in terms of the diversity of their expression, methods and the artists themselves.
