Detail
Kobayashi Tokusaburo (1884–1949, b. in Fukuyama, Hiroshima prefecture) is a painter who was active from the Taisho period to the 1940s. After graduating from Tokyo School of Fine Arts, he played an active role at Fyuzan-kai (Fusain Society), which attracted attention for the pioneering pictorial expressions and was involved in a wide variety of work such as illustrations for books and magazines, book designs and stage design for the "Geijutsuza." From 1923 Kobayashi sent works mainly at Shunyo-kai and painted many pictures of fish such as sardines and horse mackerels. In his later years, he began producing more works depicting ordinary daily life with his family and nature around him. This exhibition, the first major retrospective of the artist, will provide an overview of Kobayashi's diverse activities showcasing 300 works and reference materials.
