FUKAZAWA Shozo and Koko

Sep. 14 - Nov. 10

Detail

This is a retrospective of the Fukazawas featuring some 160 works including paintings unveiled for the first time. A painter couple, Fukazawa Shozo (1899-1992) and Fukazawa Koko (1903-1993) are known for their great contributions to the development of Iwate's art after the war. Born and raised in Morioka city, Iwate prefecture, they studied painting in Tokyo and remained there working actively as artist while young. After returning to Morioka in 1947 they opened their own art school for children and also taught younger generation at the Iwate Art Institute, which produced quite a few of artists.
Showing their wide variety of work, the exhibition surveys the Fukazawas' role and influence in modern art world of Iwate.
