L’exposition du musée du Louvre dans le Tohoku
«Rencontres, le groupe dans les collections du Louvre»

Apr.27-Jun.3, 2012

We present 23 works from the Louvre collection together with 15 works selected from our collection. As a part of support for the disaster-affected prefectures the Musée du Louvre has kindly given us an opportunity to show its precious works in our museum. Under the theme of “rencontres” the works are selected from the antique art (Orient, Egypt, and Greece), and from the occidental art from the Middle Ages to the 18th century. We exhibit them along with Funakoshi Yasutake’s sculptures and Fukazawa Koko’s paintings. Please enjoy the encounter of two collections.

Special Thematic Exhibition:
Aso Saburo ―Centered upon the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura & Hayama

Apr.10, 2012-Jan.27,2013

While MATSUMOTO Shunsuke:A Centennial Retrospective travels around Japan, we exhibit the works by Aso Saburo (1913-2000, b. Tokyo), a good friend of Matsumoto’s in Matsumoto Shunsuke and Funakoshi Yasutake Gallery.
Aso continued to depict images of human beings and the social reality surrounding them since the wartime. The human he painted always claim for their existence even in the ambiguous picture plane which tries to squash them. It would be very meaningful for us to look at his works in such time that we have to think of our lives seriously after 3.11.
The Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura & Hayama kindly lends us 10 paintings with 34 drawings from its extensive Aso collection to enable us to introduce the whole career of Aso.
