Detail

This is a retrospective exhibition of an Iwate’s painter, Gomi Seikichi (1886-1954, b. Morioka, Iwate prefecture) in commemoration of the 100th year since his birth. After learning the plein air expression at Tokyo School of Fine Arts he worked on paintings with a wide range of themes such as female nude, landscape, myth and history, and often sent them to Bunten and Teiten (the Ministry of Education-sponsored exhibition). On the other hand he made a great contribution to the development of Iwate’s art world.
The exhibition features over 90 works, including 6 screen paintings, sketches and materials for painting. It aims to review Gomi’s entire career, and to reveal his role played in Japanese art world in the first half of the 19th century.
