Detail

Noguchi Hisamitsu (1909-1994, b. Tochigi prefecture), known as a film, musical and theatrical critic, has long worked on graphic design of European film posters from the 1930s to the 1960s in Japan. His elaborately illustrated posters with artistic sensibility brought the charms of films to Japanese audience and he elevated film ephemera from  only the commercial media up to the level of art work.
This exhibition focuses on Noguchi's unique graphic work with approximately 400 pieces on display, such as film posters, portrait drawings of famous movie icons, and  design of books and jazz album covers. It is the first exhibition of Noguchi in Tohoku region.
