Detail
Giorgio Morandi (1890-1964), a representative Italian painter of the 20th century, spent most of his life in his hometown of Bologna. He repeatedly painted still lifes with bottles on a table and ordinary landscapes, pursuing his unique world of art.
This is the first retrospective exhibition of Morandi to be held in Japan in 17 years, presenting approximately 100 of his works under the curatorial support of Morandi Museum in Bologna. Focusing on the arrangement of the objects, the composition, volumes and the light and shadow, we review the quiet variations of limited subjects which he explored for his entire career.
