POP ART 1960's → 2000's from Misumi Collection

Date:
May.25,2010(Tue) - Jul.04,2010(Sun)

Detail

American pop art has long been appealing to the world since it bloomed in New York in the 1960's. It has emerged in the age of mass production and mass consumption, to be characterized by imageries drawn from mundane cultural objects such as comic books, advertising, and photos of movie stars, as well as adoption of bright colors and easily accessible atmosphere.
The exhibition shows 100 works from Misumi Art Collection of post-war American art, including Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol who were the stars of pop artists in 1960's; Keith Haring who was the world-wide icon of pop culture in 1980's; and Vic Muniz, Marina Kappos and David Lachapelle who are the most prospective pop artists of today. It also encourages us to reconsider the meaning of the paintings which have been undertaking the main role of visual art in order to focus on the image as an indispensable element of pop art.
