WATANABE Toyoshige: Retrospective of His 60 Years

Date:
Dec.20,2014(Sat) - Feb.15,2015(Sun)
Location:
Temporary Exhibition Gallery

Detail

Watanabe Toyoshige (1931-, b. Tokyo), a lead contemporary artist in Japan, has been consistently working on characteristic abstract paintings since his debut.
Vivid colors, mysterious forms and humorous titles in his work allow the viewers to relax and smile. Though experiencing several changes in the creative style, he never loses his unique sense towards forms and colors at any stages.
The exhibition retrospects Watanabe’s 60 years of creative career, dividing into four thematic chapters, by introducing 90 works of painting, print and sculpture from his early years on. His latest paintings, inspired by Hayachine-Kagura (Shinto music and dancing in Iwate) will be displayed for the first time.
