UEDA SHOJI 100th anniversary

Date:
Apr.12,2014(Sat) - Jun.08,2014(Sun)
Location:
Temporary Exhibition Gallery

Detail

The Japanese photographer, Ueda Shoji (1913-2000, b. Tottori prefecture) is well-known for the staged photos of unique composition. His photos have long been loved by many people as they were introduced repeatedly in exhibitions and books. Though some may consider him as “photographer of sand dunes”, the sand dune photos, in fact, made up only a small part of his long career.
The exhibition tries to re-examine his creative process: background, development of methods and styles, and public recognition. On display are 150 photographs ranging from his early works through his late years including the newly discovered works.
